What is 'ScholaNoctis'?

Our company name is a loan-word translation of the term 'School of Night' which is a modern term used to describe a loosely affiliated group of free thinkers from the late Elizabethan period in England. Their number included Marlowe, Raleigh and Harriot - as well as the rumour of the Earl of Northumberland having been one of their fellows - and they were all people who challenged the establishment in terms of their thinking and beliefs. You can read more about this extraordinary group on Wikipedia. Having learned about this group of thinkers and iconoclasts I was inspired to name my business after them, but to make the term my own, hence the creation of "ScholaNoctis".

Why choose Scholanoctis?

Technology & Strong Opinions Held Softly

ScholaNoctis as a technology consultancy and software development house prizes radical and cutting-edge thinking alongside the adoption of tried and tested methodologies to bring innovation and quality into lock-step for our clients.

Championing the current wave of paradigm shaping developments in technology, including AI where it is of genuine benefit, but also leaning on tried and tested, modern ideas, such as Cloud Deployment, Infrastructure as Code, Continuous Delivery, TDD / BDD and the return to favour that Functional Programming has seen, we can offer quick results and genuine longevity from the systems that we build.

We believe that it is important to have strong opinions, but hold them softly. It is true that we have a preferred technology stack, namely Clojure, but that is not the limit of our interest or capability, and in the end the right tool for the job is the one that best fits your business's needs and the job at hand.
